Dog owners envy your Libra. It climbs easily into just about anybody’s lap, befriends your tabby without eating it, and tolerates it when your two-year-old pulls on its ears or tries to ride it like a horse. Libras are tender animals with a great love for people in all shapes and sizes. Sometimes, you may even wonder if your dog likes you less because of all of its socializing.

Because of its gentle nature, be sure to keep your Libra as a house dog. Otherwise, it is probably time to get it fixed—female Libras seem to have every male on the street chasing them down. As for male Libras, they never mean to sire a litter with your neighbor’s dog. That wasn’t the plan, honestly; they just can’t say no when it comes to another cute canine.

Libras cooperate well with just about any other dog. Because they are neither tiresomely energetic nor painfully boring, they can adapt to almost any canine extreme. Still, they have a best match; for Libras, it is either Gemini or Aquarius. Libras are more likely to get along with a slower-paced dog than an overgrown puppy, but surprisingly many Libras can cooperate with vicious guard-type dogs that have driven all other pets (and owners) from the house. As always, don’t let your dog’s reproductive habits run away with it.

Libras can sometimes develop a fickle sort of character when it comes to their schedule or play. Because they are so easy to persuade, they often change their minds at the last instant about whatever it is they’re about. If a Libra comes over for a bit of a cuddle in your lap, even the slightest shift in environment (the TV, the doorbell, even a dust mote) can perk them up and send them on their meandering way. Even then, they may get distracted by anything from another loud noise to another dust mite. Your Libra may be intelligent, but it isn’t necessarily bright.

The subtly fickle aspects of a Libra’s personality come out when self-indulgence is permitted. Large amounts of toys, excessive pampering, and fine dog food all contribute to this problem. Any one of the above help the usually gentle and kind Libra begin to feel itself a cut above the rest of the world. Often, your Libra will begin to expect the same treatment from all animals and humans that pass through its domain. If your next-door neighbor comes to say hello, your Libra will be waiting for a doggy treat. When that doesn’t come, your dog will be less likely to be friendly on the next encounter. Once you and your Libra start down the path of pampering, the pair of you will possibly never turn back. It’s hard for a Libra to go back to food from a bag when it has tasted food fit for humans. Even so, it is still one of the friendliest dogs by far.
