Sagittarius is the puppy that kept its puppy heart but grew a dog-sized soul. Sagittarii are not in the beatnik crowd, but they seem to have a kind of depth that sits behind their big, happy heart. Though friendly, they definitely enjoy expanding their social circle more than the actual people and pets in the circle. If kept as a house dog, a Sagittarius is forever trying to escape into what it feels is its natural habitat; if kept outdoors, it will enjoy coming inside for meals. When outside, you’d better keep an eye on it. Sagittarius gets a little too friendly with the rest of the wildlife, sometimes. This is the dog drives the neighbors crazy on when it starts barking at yet another snail.
In spite of that edge, Sagittarii are not malicious. They are quick to open up to new people and pets, and even return for more frequent socialization. While Leo and Aries are good matches, Sagittarii never play favorites. They are too busy trying to meet as many creatures as they can. In some Sagittarii, this can be read as aloofness or indifference. Some people or pets just need a closer bond with their dog. For more easygoing animals and owners, though, a Sagittarius is the perfect fit. It never demands more than it gives and it is always willing to start friendships.
The wanderlust and energy of your Sagittarius often get it into trouble. These dogs are catlike in their ability to survive the impossible. Sagittarii cannot be counted on to ever be particularly obedient, and they don’t ever maintain much of a schedule. They may not play favorites, but that is usually only between those who show them equal attention. They are usually suckers for extra love and treats. They can be forgiving to a fault, which is good for tolerance but perhaps not so good if there are abusive owners who are or have been involved. Some Sagittarii can carry deep scars without ever revealing it.
With all of that said, your Sagittarius is a very open, friendly, and intelligent dog. Sagittarii can tolerate most people that you think they wouldn’t, such as three-year-old tail-pullers or ninety-year-old great-grandmothers who try feed them ham hocks on the sly. Their ability to tolerate people can get them in trouble. They often assume that because they’re willing to give everyone a chance, everybody else ought to do the same—so when you accidentally leave the door ajar on a Sunday evening, you can bet your Sagittarius will come out and make a beeline right for the neighbor who is allergic to dogs.
Your dog is an intelligent dog, but seems to lack common sense at times. Sagittarii are the dogs that would have no difficulty escaping from a locked bedroom or slipping in the back door (as when you have your allergic friend over) but will howl at the moon and bark at butterflies. In all its quirkiness, your Sagittarius will maintain cheerful, elevated spirits. Keep on the good side of your dog, and it will be an amazing asset.
